Outdoor space at a popular youth hub has been given a makeover with the addition of outdoor gym equipment, new seating and safety surfacing.
Bentley My Place is a £3 million three-storey youth hub which was developed to create world-class facilities for young people in Doncaster.
There is a big focus on inclusivity and wellbeing at Bentley My Place, so creating a welcoming outdoor space which opens up fitness for all were key objectives for the project.
Working with youth hub owner Doncaster City Council, Sunshine Gym provided a range of outdoor fitness equipment for cardiovascular health.
This included a Double Slalom Skier, designed to work the obliques, and a Rower, similar to the rowing machines found in traditional indoor gyms.
A Sky Stepper is also part of the equipment line-up, offering a workout similar to a cross trainer, and a wheelchair accessible Arm & Pedal Bike offers total body conditioning.
Recent research from inclusivity charity Make Space For Girls suggests as well as outdoor fitness facilities, more seating is needed to encourage young people to make use of parks and other outdoor spaces.
Doncaster City Council was able to take advantage of Sunshine Gym’s wide range of expertise in the area of outdoor infrastructure as part of the Broxap group of companies to achieve this.
The outdoor gym is complemented by a variety of seating including two Litchard Benches and a Helston Curved Bench.
Existing facilities at the My Place centre include a sports hall, music and dance studio, clinic and meeting rooms.
Its outdoor space already included social areas and now the outdoor gym brings new purpose to a space at the side of the hub building.
As the youth hub features only high-quality facilities, Sunshine Gym was the ideal fit, with the outdoor gym finished with silver outdoor rubber flooring to make the area even more inviting.
