At Sunshine Gym we’re committed to delivering opportunities for everyone to lead a healthier lifestyle.
National Fitness Day, held in September, is a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays in our wellbeing and the benefits it brings to other areas of our lives.
The event was launched to demonstrate how fitness is for everyone, with events taking place across the country to encourage more people to try out and enjoy different activities.
And while National Fitness Day aims to be the most active day of the year, the long-term goal is for participants to find an activity they can continue to take part in all year round.

Fitness for everybody

Like National Fitness Day, Sunshine Gym’s mission is to break down barriers to fitness so more people feel able and confident to take part in more activity.
Our motto is ‘fitness for everybody’ designing outdoor gyms which support the needs of the communities they serve.
This could be choosing outdoor gym equipment for rehabilitation for a healthcare setting, making exercise fun for KS1 and KS2 pupils or designing gyms which offer challenging yet time effective workouts for workplaces.
In the community, our equipment is ideal for parks and recreation grounds. Designed in the UK, each piece of equipment is safe, simple to operate and free-to-access once installed.
These design factors remove barriers such as access, cost and fear of intimidation which deter some people from joining traditional gyms and sports clubs.
In addition, equipment from Sunshine Gym is powered purely through the users own body weight.
For community leaders looking to invest in an outdoor gym, a Sunshine Gym not only gives residents, visitors and commuters free gym membership, it places no additional energy bill burden on the owners.
And because the equipment is controlled independently by users, it’s ideal for beginners, those returning to exercise, older people, children. A Sunshine Gym really does open up fitness for everybody.

Fitness all year round

Accessibility is core to our mission, which is why we work with so many different sectors and locations.
Installing outdoor gyms across the length and breadth of the UK, our teams build outdoor fitness facilities for schools, colleges and universities; for residential estates; for hospitals and care homes; for secure accommodation and prisons; for employment and business parks; for parks, recreation and leisure sites –  anywhere people share a sense of place and community.
The added benefits of outdoor gyms is that they can be made available any time, any day, again removing time restrictions which can be an issue with traditional gyms.
Whether it’s Christmas Day or late into a long summer night, a Sunshine Gym can be made accessible to all.
And for even greater usability, we can offer a wide range of additional outdoor improvements such as canopies and shelters for users willing to brave the worst of the weather.
Anyone who samples an outdoor gym session this National Fitness Day can be sure there will be opportunity to continue with their workouts all year round.

Outdoor gyms to build communities

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits from the installation of an outdoor gym is its role in building community cohesion.
As well as a stream of benefits for individual users, the opportunity for people to get out in the open air and exercise with like-minded people who can motivate and encourage each other is the basis for stronger communities.
Studies have shown social interaction, access to green space and exercise all contribute to better mental health and the reduction of symptoms associated with anxiety and depression.
In turn, reducing loneliness and restoring pride through facilities people benefit from all support social cohesion and positive behaviours.

This National Fitness Day, consider what an outdoor gym from Sunshine Gym can bring to your community as a whole – in addition to the physical health benefits for users.
